Power BI Desktop can be learned quickly due to the familiar menu navigation. A 2-day beginner's training course from Informatec is usually enough to be able to use it.
With Power BI Desktop, connections can be made with data from many different sources. Click here for a full list of available data sources.
Power BI Desktop offers a good, free opportunity to get started with the topic of business intelligence and has numerous functions for data analysis and visualisation.
Power BI Desktop provides access to data from hundreds of supported local and cloud-based sources. Data can also be structured, transformed and the data model loaded into Power BI Desktop using the Power Query Editor data transformation and preparation module included in Power BI Desktop.
Power BI Desktop offers three distinct views: In the modelling view, relationships between the tables in the data model can be displayed and managed. The data view shows tables, measures and other data used in the data model. In the report view, visuals and reports can be created.
Power BI Desktop offers out-of-the-box visuals to visually represent data in the form of charts, graphs or tabular objects. Other visual Power BI elements are available via Microsoft AppSource or via Power BI. In addition, user-defined Power BI visuals can be created with the open-source framework.
Power BI Desktop is a free Windows desktop application.
Power BI Desktop can be installed as an app from the Microsoft Store. Alternatively, an executable file can be downloaded via the Download Centre, which is then installed on the respective computer.
Our tip: Companies interested in Power BI Desktop should bear in mind that sharing reports and dashboards is only possible with a licensed, i.e. paid, Power BI edition. We will be happy to advise you on the selection of the right licence model for your requirements.
IMPORTANT: To share reports and datasets, they must be uploaded to the Power BI Service. This requires at least at least one fee-based Power BI Pro licence.
