Success story - Equatex AG Internal reporting with Qlik Sense Equatex keeps an eye on customers’ share-based compensation programs „With Qlik Sense we can integrate and aggregate large volumes of transactional data across regions. KPIs derived from this and visualised evaluations are then automatically available to our management on a daily basis.“ Peter Straehl, Head IT Data Analytics, Equatex AG The client Equatex AG, based in Zurich, with around 250 employees, specialises in the administration of employee share option programmes for global companies. The financial service provider’s core product is the “EquatePlus” platform, which enables the efficient administration of international share option and compensation programmes for employees across different regions, languages and currencies, including taxation and the associated reporting according to local requirements. Equatex is part of the Australian Computershare (ASX: CPU), a global leader in managing share registers, employee share ownership programs, mortgage loan administration, and custodial voting rights activation. Solution overview Industry: Financial Services Department: IT Data Analytics, Employee Shareplans, Finance, Risk and Information Security, CIO/CTO and Contact-Center-Management Region: Zurich (Switzerland) Sources: EquatePlus platform, ticket systems (Jira and ServiceNow), contact centre application Implemented technologies: Qlik Sense, QlikView, Qlik Publisher and NPrinting/NewsStand. Introduction of WIP. ROI & Time-to-value: Transparency about assets, customers and revenues. Automated provision of up-to-date data INITIAL SITUATION Internal reporting challenge “Equatex started out as a specialised department of a large financial institution whose finance and IT departments also took care of our reporting,” recalls Peter Straehl, Head of IT Data Analytics at Equatex. “In order to enable more independent growth, the sale to a private equity investor took place almost ten years ago, which resulted in the spin-off of an independent company in 2015 - and we were therefore faced with the requirement of having to map our business data ourselves.” A data analytics team was formed, which initially took care of financial planning with a specialised tool. “However, the reporting requirements increased very quickly across all areas of the young company. We also wanted to gain detailed insights into our data in the operational area and for the customer manager, but we still lacked a suitable business intelligence solution." Assets under management with Qlik in view At the same time, the private equity owner started a project to get an overview of the future earnings potential of the assets managed by Equatex. An application was developed on the basis of QlikView, with which the assets under management could be monitored and the earnings potential determined. Qlik impressed with its ability to handle large amounts of data and complex ETL processes. “We noticed pretty quickly that QlikView is perfectly suited to solving our analysis and reporting requirements,” reports Peter Straehl. “And it became clear to us just as quickly that we needed more licenses, which we finally acquired from Informatec. They are located close to us and have a good reputation on the Swiss market.” Solution Informatec supports growth The relationship with Informatec followed the growth of Equatex: For example, as part of the automation of loading processes, multi-level process dependencies had to be introduced. In addition to creating online dashboards, there was also a need to create asynchronous reports from QlikView and distribute them to end users. Informatec advised on the solution and procurement of Qlik Publisher and NPrinting/NewsStand. Informatec also supported the next major development step: the migration to Qlik Sense. “At this point in time, there were always technical issues for which we needed support beyond the topic of solutions and license procurement, so we gave Informatec a corresponding consulting mandate to further expand the solution,” reports Peter Straehl. “In this context, Informatec not only gave us very professional support with questions about Qlik Sense itself, but also when it came to evaluating other tools, such as Qlik Data Integration for data integration and WIP for Qlik for version and deployment management of Qlik applications.” AREAS OF APPLICATION AND BENEFITS 250 active Qlik users Since 2018 Equatex belongs to the Australian Computershare (ASX: CPU), a global leader in managing share registers, employee share ownership programs, mortgage loan administration, and custodial voting rights activation. The EquatePlus platform is also being rolled out globally for Computershare’s Plan customers and in this context business intelligence requirements continue to grow. The BI solution evaluates data from various source systems, including the EquatePlus platform, ticket systems such as Jira and ServiceNow, and a contact center application. The data is updated once a day in the morning. For example, revenue that Equatex generates across multiple customers and customer groups with the various services is displayed in Qlik. This includes trading commissions levied on employees’ shares when they sell them and fees for converting the proceeds from the company’s local currency to the currency of the country in which the employees work. Information can also be retrieved on which employees are calling from which customers in the call centre and with which requests. Nine employees are now working at Equatex/Computershare on the further development of the Qlik Sense solution for the ‘Plans’ division. Qlik Sense is actively used by around 250 users from the areas of employee share plans, finance, risk and information security as well as from the technical environment (CIO/CTO) and from contact centre management. Another 250 stakeholders are automatically supplied with reports via NPrinting. “We have now introduced Qlik at our parent company Computershare in the area of employee plan management. The community of stakeholders there is now even much larger than that at Equatex,” adds Peter Straehl. Informatec is also Equatex’s partner for the future when it comes to technical support and the further development of the BI landscape. “The partnership with Informatec has strengthened significantly over the years and we have a good feeling that we can continue to grow together,” concludes Peter Straehl. Qlik Sense FREEDOM FOR THE INTUITIONS Qlik Sense is a revolutionary application that enables anyone to create self-service data visualisation, personalised reports and dynamic dashboards.
